About Supplicium

Holocron & Star

IN UMBRA EST VOX
IN SHADOW IS POWER

Supplicium was founded for "Age of Reckoning." Now "The Old Republic" draws near and we are moving to this new game. We were a Destruction Regiment in Warhammer Online but ongoing issues with Tier 4, plus a major billing fiasco, have finally proven too much to justify remaining any longer. Our plans are to form a Sith Empire Guild in The Old Republic. We'll encourage roleplaying in-game but it won't be required. The primary goal, as always, is to be a community and help each other enjoy the game. Our domain will be on one of TOR's RP servers if they are implemented. We feel the call of the dark side most in player versus player combat. However, we will not neglect player versus environment challenges.

Space Combat Confirmed?

by Sir Robin, 6 days ago

Forum Image

The July 23rd update was a "Fan Friday," so I had planned to skip updating the news here. Then as part of the Comic-Con reveals it was confirmed there would be space combat in The Old Republic. We even got this posted by Sean in the official forum. Shocked I found his explanation rather odd given how they buttoned up after the Closed Beta invites leaked. Still, that whole bit about not looking a gift horse in the mouth or some other such nonsense.

First, thank you to all of you who participated in our Comic-Con Reveal mission! While we didn't quite make the numbers, we definitely saw how excited the community is about this and how everyone came together. After all of that, there's no way we could hold back with our special reveal at Comic-Con!

If you’ve been following the news coming out of the Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ panel at Comic-Con International, you’ve heard the announcement that we will indeed have Space Combat as part of the TOR experience! But what does that mean? Space combat is an alternative gameplay experience to the primary game of storytelling, questing, and ground-based combat. In space combat, you fly your personal ship to various “hot spots” on your galaxy map. From there, you will blast your way through asteroid fields, enemy fighters, frigates, destroyers, and a variety of other obstacles that will evoke memories of some of the great Star Wars™ space battles.

To learn more, pick up the October 2010 edition of PC Gamer which hits newsstands starting August 17th for screenshots and an exclusive interview or check back with us in the weeks to come.

I'll be scouring the earth to pick up a copy of that issue. I used to love PCGamer, way back when, and it brings a smile to my shriveled soul to see them getting this scoop. Love that they are not only bringing back the Sith Fighters from the KotOR game but that they are also not bringing the Republic fighters from that game. The updated Sith Fighter looks suitably badass and the new Republic fighter, for a change, looks like a suitable rival.

Of course it wasn't all good news as the way Sean described TOR's space combat sounded more like Defender than TIE Fighter. However, given the fact that BioWare already said during E3 that TOR's space would be like Mass Effect's... Well, almost anything would be an improvement. I am not a fan of how BioWare handled space travel, and the lack of space combat, in Mass Effect.

It reads, to me, like space combat will be similar to the previously mentioned "warzones." Essentially Warzones are TOR's version of WoW's Battlegrounds and WAR's Scenarios. Having space versions of those seems just fine to me. Indeed it seems like they might not be PvP type affairs either since "asteroids" will probably not be player piloted. Well, unless they are K'ha'haf of course. Laughing

Yeah, I know 99.9% of you didn't get the reference. Its an old jaded gamer thing.

So, it looks like we'll at least get PvE in space and maybe PvP too. I'm okay with that and consider it a hell of a lot better than getting that damn probe-mining time sink from ME2 instead. God, I hated that mini-game. Maybe they'll even go the Battlefront 2 route and let us fly those fighters instead of being stuck in our big old housecraft. Naturally I'm not going to get my hopes up too much because it is an "alternative" to the primary gameplay experience after all.

So while we have been told that there is space combat in TOR we have also, naturally, been left with just as many if not more questions. Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Razz

Music of The Old Republic

The emotional experience of Star Wars™ comes to life in new music created exclusively for The Old Republic™. From soft melodies that ring in the forest of Alderaan to the magnificent booming of a battle scene on Ord Mantell, a talented team of composers, musicians and developers came together to create a magical score for the game.

Watch Developer Dispatch: Music of The Old Republic to see what goes into weaving the familiar Star Wars riffs with a new original score. And learn how music impacts the thrilling moments in video games as well as movies.

A better update than I expected, considering we got a webcomic, article, and video. A nice meaty update, especially considering that we are in the midst of convention season where I expect the big reveals to happen at shows.

Leaking & You

LEAKING & YOU

I guess I should bring up this issue here. Over the last week, a lot of information from the first round of Closed Beta testing for The Old Republic has leaked. It started at leakerz.com but quickly spread. All told we are up to four videos and dozens of screenshots. For the record, I do not agree with "leaking" confidential information. Especially about a game that you had to have agreed to a non-disclosure agreement to test. In my opinion, if you do not take the non-disclosure agreement seriously then you probably don't take your testing responsibilities seriously either.

I encourage anyone spotting leaks to send the url's to bwacommunitysupport@bioware.com. While my specs will likely keep me out of the Closed Beta till the end, the thought that testers are ignoring their responsibilities bothers me. I am sure there are potential testers out there, with better hardware than mine, who will respect the NDA and deserve the slot more than ones who don't. Personally I hope the responsible parties get caught, and punished.

Closed Beta Begins?
Links to MMOSite page

Something strange began happening over at the official website a few days ago. To give it some context, in the past, when someone posted about Beta it would be locked within a page or maybe two and the original poster would be directed to the official beta discussion thread.

It has been this way for over a year if I recall correctly. Well this changed Wednesday when someone posted about someone claiming on another forum that Beta invites were going out and it was for this weekend. Well this time the moderators did not lock the thread and, eventually, posted things like these instead.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the information and it's definitely interesting that people are posting about our Game Testing Program. We don't have anything official to say at this moment but if you have any questions, please check out the Game Testing Program FAQ.

The Game Testing Agreement that was agreed upon (when signing up for game testing) states:

PERMITTED DISCLOSURES
1. The fact that there is a Game Program.
2. The fact that you are a member of the Game Program.

Outside of that, it is a violation of the agreement to do anything more such as posting images or screen captures of anything related to Game Testing that is private and confidential and not already publicly revealed by The Old Republic team.

They also deleted, or edited, every attempt to post links to proof of the invites being provided. I even got a warning for typing in the text of the purported proof. Naturally this lack of lock and lack of denial by the mods caused the thread to explode into a second and third version within a few days.

It wound up the moderators so much that we even got a new sticky in the forum. Then there was the final kicker with the weekly update being very late, about ten hours, Friday instead of the normal Nine-ish A.M. Beyond that it was only a webcomic update and we just had one last week. Interesting posts from Sean about that too.

Just wanted to let everyone know that tomorrow's update will be running late tomorrow. How late? Hard to say at this point but I should have some more info early tomorrow (that is, early my time). I'll update this thread (and the first post) with such information.

That all said, instead of camping the F5 key, I'd suggest following us on the social networks we are a part of since we post the updates there as soon as everything is ready.

UPDATE [11:20AM CDT]: Nothing really new to tell at this time; we do not have an eta on when today's update will be posted. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

I would concur with GamewizX. We have not announced what this week's update is and the reason I haven't is because things sometimes change. When I have information for everyone, I'll definitely share it.

UPDATE [1:30PM CDT]: Still no eta on the update. We appreciate all the patience and understanding and the best advice I can give right now is find something fun and entertaining to do and hopefully next time you check in, we'll have something to share with everyone.

That is, unless you hit F5 right after I post this.

UPDATE [2:40PM CDT]: Nothing new to share at this point. Chances are it could either be a (very) late update or something we'll share with the community sometime next week.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding with all of this.

FINAL UPDATE [6:05PM CDT]: Just to let everyone know, we will be putting up the latest issue of the Blood of the Empire within the hour. We thank you for your patience and understanding and definitely check back in next week.

Not to mention this...

Pretty sure I talked about this in my ramblefest (*shameless plug*), but there is a lot that goes into even the smallest updates. Not only is there figuring out what the update is, there is creating it, iterating on it, and then the approval process to ensure that its accurate and that everyone at BioWare and LucasArts are happy with it.

We've seen many times where people say "Hey, just take a few screenshots and slap them on the site." It really isn't that simple, though.

And while I'm posting anyways - still no eta. So if anyone is reading this and here solely waiting on today's update, I'd encourage you to check back later.

So do we figure they planned to have two weeks of webcomic updates? I think it is a given at this point that something big happened this week which caused BioWare to change their plans. My hunch is that the Beta Invites leak caused BioWare to start scrambling but they are not going into any detail on the subject.

Interesting, I wonder if Closed Beta for TOR will follow the same path that Guild Beta for WAR did. Laughing

/sigh

I sure as hell hope not.

Playable Species

The Ratattaki was the first non-human species we announced in The Old Republic and we showed them being played as butt-kicking Bounty Hunters. There is more information coming on these, and other, playable species at a later date, so stay tuned to The Old Republic website.

Okay, finally updated this to show everything the news at TOR shows. Overall I'm not hugely impressed and didn't expect to be. As far as I'm concerned its still just a bunch of hype until I get to dig into it. However, the latest podcast from DarthHater has been somewhat encouraging. Of course I remember how impressed Only-WAR always seemed to be and the end result was far from what we hoped for.
